Bike History
The first bicycle in recorded history was created in Germany in 1817, called the Draisine. It was constructed almost completely out of wood and weighed almost 50 pounds. In the 1860’s in France, the word bicycle was first coined. France produced the first popular and widely successful model of the bike. These bikes were made of metal and thus were mass-produced. Since then the bike has undergone many changes in design and technological advancements have continued to improve upon the bike. It wasn’t until the early 1900s that the bicycle became a common form of transportation for men- and women- of all ages.
