Hawthorne

The Hawthorne was manufactured during the 1930's to the late 1960's. You could buy these bikes from the Montgomery Ward Stores or their catalog. In the late 1930's, Hawthorne Zep was a very popular bike to own. In the 1940's, Hawthorne manufactured the All-American, which was very popular bike at the time. In 1960's, Hawthorne manufactured the Hercules, which was a three speed bike with brakes.

Hawthorne was the first to add a basket to the front of their bikes. This allowed the rider to carry items with them. Hawthorn made lighter bikes for women riders, which allowed an easier handling and riding of bikes. They even place the gears lower, so a women's skirt would not get caught in the bike. Some of the Hawthorne bikes were manufactured in England.
